The couple knew that they did not want to live in the United Kingdom when they finally retire
With the high prices of homes and not keeping pace with salaries in the UK, this British husband decided to get rid of the mice race and follow up the dream of moving to France. But they only found a house – they bought a complete village.
Bin Pearson, 39, and his wife, Nathan, 31, was eager for a simpler life for a period of time. When my mother, Karen Pearson, 62, moved to France 10 years ago, the idea became more realistic. On a visit to see it seven years ago, they stumbled on an abandoned farm – they can now contact the house.
The farm comes with five exterior buildings and two hectares of Earth, dating back to the sixteenth century. Ultimately, they hope to convert some external buildings into Airbnb homes and guests – but at the present time, the concentration makes the house fit.
The property has no heating or even a toilet, but Ben is planning to turn it into a three -bed house, all of this. “He comes out of the 9 to 5 mice race in England,” said Ben, a British Royal Air Force engineer. “There is no way we can withstand something like this in the UK.”
They started searching for a retirement house three years ago, but did not feel anything right. It was not even two years ago, the farm itself returned in the market. After two years of paper, they finally got the keys in December 2024.
The property is the oldest in its small community. The main house dates back to the early nineteenth century, and Farmhouse 1600s. Now, the only source of heat is an open fire. It needs a new roof, a sewage tank and modern heating, but the couple hopes to get a room suitable for living within six months. Until then, they will live in a convoy.
Inside, the house still holds traces of the past – old utensils, pans, and Mason jars left on the shelves. They are planning to maintain as much date as possible as it is restored. “We want to maintain the greatness of everything,” Nathan added.
They sold everything in the UK and are moving in July to start working at the retirement house. Nathan said: “When we dreamed of a simpler life, we somehow finished buying a small village – we will not change it for the world,” Nathan said.
But the couple cannot wait to move and exit from the United Kingdom, while some believe that the French could be “intermediaries”, the couple had a completely different experience. Nathan said: “Even when you go to the nearest city, people are friendly and welcome,” Nathan said. “This is the thing we were looking for.”
