David Croft, a long -term commentator at Sky Sports F1, misses the Grand Emilia Romania race this week, when the broadcaster replaced him from the BBC
David Croft, the main commentator at Sky SPORTS F1, will be absent from the work of Emilia Romania the great this week in Emola. Instead, the BBC Radio 5 Live Harry Benjamin broadcaster is scheduled to take control of his place after a temporary turning to Sky Sports.
With the start of the seventh race for this season in Italy this weekend, Formula 1 fans may leave surprised to not hear the veteran veteran commentator's voice immediately on their TV.
The 54 -year -old has worked as a major commentator at Sky Sports since the broadcaster has secured the Formula One broadcast rights in the United Kingdom and Ireland before the start of the 2012 season. Since then, he formed an initial partnership in the comments box with the former F1 driver Martin Brundel.
But Croft will lose the Grand Emilia Romania race, as well as the races in Austria and Azerbaijan this season, after making the decision to retreat a little from his role.
He missed the same three races in 2024, after he chose to sit from a handful of races every season since the F1 calendar expanded to 24 races.
He explained his decision last year, Croft told Independent: “It is about keeping the entire season. I don't get any younger.
“I have surrendered and destroyed a lot for my career. I want to return some time to my family and not be on the other side of the world. I will get married this year as well, so I have a wedding to organize!
“But I also want to sit and watch a race at home. I want to enjoy it. Maybe I can learn something by not commenting on a race. I can discover some things when I watch – I want to see what the viewer sees.”
He added: “The triple heads affect their losses, you can eventually be exhausted.”
An alternative to him, Benjamin, Cruouvte occupied the three races that she missed last season. Benjamin is a rising star to broadcast Motorsport, as it has led the F1 coverage of BBC 5 Radio since 2022.
Regardless of the experience of broadcasting motorsport, he has a background in theatrical arts, and initially trained as an actor at the Palibated Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
He initially assumed a role as a presenter in Autosport International in 2019. Then he worked as a major leader in formulas 2 and 3, and the GT Intercontinental challenge, and Porsche Super CuP.
Benjamin posted on social media at the end of his first full season that covers F1 in December 2024: “The first full season covers Formula 1 = I was done! I learned a large amount and working alongside many wonderful people on @BBC5Live (IMG) throughout the year was a lot of fun.
“Until I had the opportunity to drive @skysportsf1 it was a dream, as he was working alongside the talented people who saw on the TV grow up. Everyone has behind the scenes who gave advice, comments and even the opportunity, absolute myths.”
